FileSentinel runs entirely on your device. This policy explains what the app does, and does not do, with your information. The short version: nothing leaves your computer.
FileSentinel ("the app") is a privacy and data-protection tool published by Van Dien io LLC ("we," "us," "our"). FileSentinel runs entirely on your device. This policy explains what the app does, and does not do, with your information.
None. FileSentinel has no user accounts, no sign-in, no analytics SDKs, no advertising identifiers, and no crash-reporting service. Van Dien io LLC does not collect, receive, transmit, or store any data from your use of the app.
FileSentinel only reads the files and folders you choose to scan (by drag-and-drop, by browsing to them, by right-clicking "Scan with FileSentinel," or via a folder you add to Watched Folders). It reads file contents in order to detect sensitive information (such as personal identifiers, financial data, and secrets) and embedded metadata. This processing happens entirely on your computer.
All data the app generates is stored locally on your device only:
%LocalAppData%\VanDien\FileSentinel\.FileSentinel-Clean and FileSentinel-Redacted folders.Your original files are never modified. None of the above is ever sent to Van Dien io LLC or anyone else.
FileSentinel does not require an internet connection to scan, perform OCR, or redact. The detection rule catalog and the OCR engine are bundled with the app; no rules, data, or file contents are fetched or uploaded at runtime.
The app includes an optional, off-by-default "anonymous usage" setting. The current version of the app transmits nothing even when this setting is enabled. If a future version ever uses this setting to send anonymous, non-content usage information, it will remain strictly opt-in and this policy will be updated to describe exactly what is sent before the feature is enabled.
Because all data stays on your device, you are in full control of it. You can delete scan history from within the app, and you can remove all stored app data at any time by deleting the %LocalAppData%\VanDien\FileSentinel\ folder or by uninstalling the app. Reports and cleaned/redacted copies you have created are ordinary files you can delete yourself.
FileSentinel uses bundled open-source libraries (including a local OCR engine and document parsers) that run on your device. These components do not transmit your data off the device.
FileSentinel is a productivity and security tool that is not directed at children and collects no personal information from anyone.
If we change this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date above. Any future online feature will be opt-in and documented here before it is enabled.

The sections above describe the FileSentinel desktop app. This note covers only the vandien.io website you are reading now, which is separate from the app. The website uses Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID AW-18147278244) to measure aggregate traffic. The FileSentinel app itself contains no analytics or web-tracking code of any kind. You can opt out of website analytics with the official Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on or by blocking analytics scripts in your browser. Doing so has no effect on the app.
