PRIVACY POLICY

NetGlobe

Van Dien io LLC — New Jersey, United States

Van Dien io LLC (“we,” “us,” or “our”) respects your privacy and is committed to protecting any personal information you share with us. This Privacy Policy explains how information is processed in connection with your use of the NetGlobe desktop software application (the “Software”). This Privacy Policy applies only to NetGlobe; other Van Dien io products (such as DropFile) are covered by their own policies.

This Privacy Policy is incorporated into and forms part of the NetGlobe End User License Agreement (“EULA”). By installing or using NetGlobe, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with its terms, please do not install or use the Software.

1. Local-First Architecture (Summary)

NetGlobe is designed to be local-first. The Software runs entirely on your device, opens a tiny HTTP server only on the loopback interface (127.0.0.1), and renders its user interface in your default browser. By default, NetGlobe does not create user accounts, transmit telemetry, or synchronize any data to a cloud service operated by Van Dien io LLC.

  • We do not collect, transmit, or store your network data on our servers. All connection enumeration, geolocation, and analysis happens on your device.
  • NetGlobe has no user accounts and no required sign-in.
  • The NetGlobe desktop Software does not include analytics or telemetry. The Software does not phone home for usage metrics, crash counts, or feature-flag checks. (Our marketing website at vandien.io / netglobe.io is a separate matter and does use Google Analytics — see Section 12.)
  • The only outbound network calls the Software makes are the third-party feeds and lookups you enable, each of which is auditable, configurable, and disable-able in Settings.
  • If you purchase NetGlobe through the Apple Mac App Store or Microsoft Store, the store handles your purchase and license-validation data under its own privacy policy.

2. Information Processed Locally on Your Device

NetGlobe reads and processes the following information on your device only, in order to provide its functionality. None of this information is transmitted to Van Dien io LLC:

  • Network socket state: NetGlobe enumerates active TCP and UDP sockets using operating-system APIs (netstat on Windows, lsof on macOS). For each socket this typically includes local and remote IP addresses, ports, transport protocol, socket state, and the process identifier (PID) that owns the socket.
  • Process attribution: For sockets owned by your own processes, NetGlobe reads the process name, executable path, parent process, code-signing status, and basic file metadata in order to compute a local trust score and present it to you.
  • GeoIP lookup data: Public remote IP addresses are looked up against the GeoIP database bundled with the Software (currently DB-IP Lite MMDB or equivalent). Lookups are performed locally; no IP address is sent to Van Dien io LLC for geolocation.
  • Cached lookup results: When you click on a connection to view details, NetGlobe may cache the result of a WHOIS / RDAP lookup, a reverse-DNS lookup, or a TLS certificate read locally so repeated views are instant. Caches live in NetGlobe’s local data directory inside your user profile.
  • Application settings: Your in-app preferences (visual style, enabled feeds, custom endpoints, latency targets, etc.) are stored locally.

3. Outbound Network Calls the Software May Make

NetGlobe makes outbound network calls only for the features listed below, and only when those features are enabled or invoked by you. Every external URL the Software may contact is listed in Settings → External Endpoints (advanced) and may be disabled, repointed to a private mirror, or replaced with your own equivalent service. None of these requests transmit your connection records, process names, or local activity to Van Dien io LLC.

  • Threat-intelligence feeds: The Software periodically downloads public threat-indicator lists (for example FireHOL Level 1 and Level 2, Spamhaus DROP and EDROP, the Tor exit node list, and ThreatFox indicators of compromise) so connections can be matched locally. These requests are made directly to the published URLs of the feed maintainers.
  • Internet-health and outage data: The Software may fetch public outage and BGP-instability signals (for example from IODA and IHR) to provide context about wider internet conditions.
  • WHOIS / RDAP: When you click a connection and request a WHOIS / RDAP lookup, the Software issues a query to the registry or registrar responsible for that IP range. The query contains the IP address being looked up.
  • Speed test and iperf3: When you start a speed test, the Software contacts the public test server you selected (or your own configured iperf3 endpoint) to measure throughput and latency.
  • GeoIP database updates: When you request an update, the Software downloads a new copy of the bundled GeoIP MMDB from its published source.
  • Software updates: NetGlobe is distributed through the Apple Mac App Store and Microsoft Store; updates are delivered by those platforms. The Software does not run a separate self-updater.

4. Information We Receive Directly

The only information Van Dien io LLC itself receives is what you choose to send us:

  • Support communications: If you email netglobesupport@vandien.io or info@vandien.io, we receive your message, your email address, and anything you choose to include (logs, screenshots, version information). We use this only to respond to and resolve your request.
  • Mailing-list opt-in: If you submit your email through the “Get notified” form on netglobe.io, we receive that email address and use it solely to notify you when NetGlobe launches. You can unsubscribe at any time.

We do not sell, rent, or trade any of this information.

5. Store-Provided Information (Apple Mac App Store, Microsoft Store)

If you obtain NetGlobe through the Apple Mac App Store or Microsoft Store, your purchase, billing, license validation, and update delivery are handled by Apple Inc. or Microsoft Corporation, respectively, under their own privacy policies. Van Dien io LLC receives only the aggregated, anonymized sales and crash data those platforms provide to publishers, and we do not link that data to any individual user.

6. How We Use Information You Send Us

We use the limited information described in Section 4 for the following purposes:

  • To respond to support requests, questions, and feedback;
  • To notify you, on a single-message basis, when NetGlobe becomes available (if you opted in to the launch mailing list);
  • To send you important notices regarding the Software, such as security advisories or material changes to this Privacy Policy;
  • To comply with applicable legal obligations.

We will not use your information for advertising, behavioral profiling, or sale to third-party marketers.

7. How We Share Information

Van Dien io LLC does not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We may share information only in the following limited circumstances:

7.1 Service Providers

We may engage trusted third-party service providers to assist in operating our business (e.g., email delivery, customer support platforms). These providers are contractually obligated to use your information solely to perform services on our behalf and to maintain appropriate confidentiality and security measures.

7.2 Legal Compliance and Protection

We may disclose information if required to do so by law or in the good-faith belief that such disclosure is reasonably necessary to: (a) comply with a legal obligation or government request; (b) protect and defend the rights or property of Van Dien io LLC; (c) prevent or investigate possible wrongdoing in connection with the Software; or (d) protect the personal safety of users or the public.

7.3 Business Transfers

In the event of a merger, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of all or substantially all of our assets, information we have received from you may be transferred to the successor entity. We will notify you via email or a prominent notice within the Software before information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

8. Data Retention

We retain personal information only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, or as required by applicable law. Specifically:

  • Support and communication records are retained for up to three (3) years from the date of last contact.
  • Launch-notification mailing-list entries are retained until the launch notification is sent or you unsubscribe, whichever comes first.
  • License and purchase records, where applicable, are retained for up to seven (7) years to comply with financial recordkeeping requirements.

When information is no longer needed, we securely delete or anonymize it.

9. Data Security

Because NetGlobe is local-first, the security of the data it processes is primarily a function of your device’s security. We recommend keeping your operating system and the Software up to date.

For the limited correspondence and mailing-list data Van Dien io LLC does receive, we implement reasonable and appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect that information against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. These measures include encryption of data in transit, access controls, and regular security reviews. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure. In the event of a data breach that affects your personal information, we will notify you as required by applicable law.

10. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your location, you may have certain rights with respect to your personal information. Regardless of location, Van Dien io LLC honors the following requests:

  • Access: You may request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correction: You may request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
  • Deletion: You may request that we delete your personal information, subject to our legal obligations and legitimate business needs.
  • Disable any feed: Every external URL the Software may call is listed in Settings → External Endpoints (advanced). You may disable individual feeds, mirror them privately, or replace them.
  • Clear local caches: Use Settings → Data → Clear cache, or delete NetGlobe’s local data directory inside your user profile.
  • Remove the Software: Uninstalling NetGlobe and removing its data directory removes everything it stored on your device.
  • Unsubscribe from the launch mailing list: Use the unsubscribe link in any message we send, or email info@vandien.io.

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at the address provided in Section 14 below. We will respond to verified requests within thirty (30) days. We may need to verify your identity before processing your request.

11. Children’s Privacy

NetGlobe is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take prompt steps to delete such information. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately.

12. Website Analytics and Cookies

Although the NetGlobe desktop Software is local-first and contains no analytics or telemetry (see Section 1), our marketing and legal websites — vandien.io (where this Privacy Policy is hosted) and netglobe.io — use Google Analytics 4, a web analytics service provided by Google LLC, to help us understand how visitors find and use the sites. Our Google Analytics measurement ID is G-5KV1QL3DZL.

Google Analytics is loaded only on web pages. It is not part of the NetGlobe Software, is not bundled into any installer, and does not run on your device after the Software is installed.

When you visit a page that loads the Google Analytics tag, Google may set first-party cookies in your browser (typically named “_ga” and “_ga_<container-id>”) and process the following information:

  • A truncated form of your IP address (Google Analytics 4 does not store full IP addresses);
  • The pages you visit on the site and the time spent on each;
  • The referring URL, if any, and basic campaign parameters (such as utm_source);
  • Browser type and version, operating system, device type, screen resolution, and language;
  • Approximate geographic location (country and region) derived from your IP address.

We use this information only in aggregate, to measure site traffic and to understand which pages and product features are of interest to visitors. We do not use Google Analytics to build advertising audiences, to retarget visitors, or to identify you as an individual. Google acts as our data processor and processes this data under Google’s own terms; for additional detail see Google’s Privacy Policy and the Google Analytics safeguards page.

You can prevent your visit from being measured at any time by:

  • Installing the official Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on;
  • Blocking third-party scripts or cookies in your browser, or using a content-blocking extension or DNS filter that blocks googletagmanager.com and google-analytics.com.

Disabling website analytics has no effect on your ability to download, install, or use NetGlobe.

13. Changes to This Privacy Policy

Van Dien io LLC reserves the right to update or modify this Privacy Policy at any time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Effective Date” at the top of this document and notify you through the Software or via the email address associated with your purchase, where applicable. Your continued use of NetGlobe after such notification constitutes your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.

We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically to stay informed about how we handle information.
